**GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:**

Carrier is seeking a highly motivated Software Engineer to work with a team of software engineers responsible for developing software solutions that drive the Carrier HVAC equipment and connectivity. The ideal candidate is excited by the prospect working with our team to further optimize our production software applications for scale and speed in imaginative and innovative ways. You will be integral team member, defining and integrating our products into the Connected Home. This will include the development of software solutions to integrate our products with the Cloud, mobile apps, and other IoT devices.

The candidate will have responsibility for the following in addition to miscellaneous assignments as needed.


+ Lead a small team in the development of embedded firmware

+ Develop embedded software in support of Carrier's wall controls and thermostats

+ Develop embedded software in support of Carrier's HVAC equipment control systems

+ Create and run unit test software to ensure quality of developed code

+ Develop special test software for hardware and validation/reliability engineering

+ Lead and participate in software inspections and design reviews

+ Investigate and address issues identified via static analysis

+ Develop, document, and execute integration test plans to ensure first time quality in deliveries to the Software Quality Assurance team

+ Identify the root cause and resolve any issues identified by testing or the Software Quality Assurance team

+ Balance the responsibilities of sustaining and new product development projects

+ Understand the software development life cycle and processes using model based development

+ Provide leadership in the project planning process (e.g. estimates for project plan tasks, resources, completion time, capital requirements, risks, expenses, etc.)

+ Develop clear and concise software design documentation

+ Create and maintain detailed systems integration and firmware product specifications

+ Ensure team members execute the necessary design, process, and documentation steps to ensure a quality product

+ Participate with Carrier's Marketing organization to help define the technology roadmap for future Connected Home features and products

+ Demonstrate the ability to lead a project team by interacting effectively with various engineering functions/disciplines; systems, hardware, validation/reliability and manufacturing

+ Participate in project governance activities including technology maturity and risk identification reviews


**LEVEL OF RESPONSIBILITY:**


+ Leads moderate sized projects to ensure quality deliveries according to the project timeline

+ Makes significant contribution to their team by applying their knowledge of the discipline

+ Provides moderate guidance to other team members on projects with short-term focus


TYPICAL EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:


+ BS/MS in Computer/Electrical Engineering or Computer Science and minimum 10 years of prior relevant experience; or,

+ Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 7 years experience.


**KEY QUALIFICATIONS:**


+ 10+ years of software development experience

+ Experience developing firmware with C & C++ programming languages

+ Experience with various connectivity protocols (WiFi, Bluetooth, Z-Wave, Zigbee, etc.)

+ Experience with socket APIs

+ RTOS experience

+ Experience with software architecture and design patterns

+ Familiarity with debugging

+ Experience with configuration/change management systems such as PVCS or Rational Team Concert

+ Intermediate level skills with Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel

+ Organized with strong attention to detail, while managing multiple priorities

+ Proven ability to implement continuous improvements and standardize processes

+ Linux/Android (preferred)

+ Experience with ARM Microcontrollers (preferred)

+ Model Based Development using IBM Rhapsody and Matlab/State Flow (preferred)

+ (HVAC) System Design Experience (preferred)
