POSITION SUMMARY


The Communications Associate, reporting to the Communications Director, is responsible for assisting in the overall management of the organization's communications efforts both internally and externally. This position will serve as the Foundation's coordinator with media platforms and public relations resources. Responsibilities include using tactical skill to leverage available assets to share compelling stories about SYF, and releasing those stories across multiple platforms; pitching to news media at both national and local level to bring awareness to SYF and its mission; coordinating and designing printed and electronic material; executing digital strategies including social media, email and website (blog) maintenance; and assisting in research, writing and collateral production, as needed.





QUALIFICATIONS



+ Bachelor's degree in journalism, public relations, communications or related field.


+ At least three years of experience in public relations, communications, or news media; previous non-profit experience desired.


+ Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Adobe Creative Suite, Blackbaud Platforms (Raiser's Edge, Luminate Online), on-line databases (such as LexisNexis), and web content management systems, highly desired.


+ Proficiency in graphic design, videography, photography and editing strongly preferred.


+ Demonstrated ability to work in a campaign style, team environment and continually meet deadline-driven goals.


+ Demonstrated success in story pitching and placement at local, regional and national level.


+ Proven ability to develop, execute and maintain strong social media and digital/web platforms (WordPress, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn), including analyzing and reporting on analytic data to inform strategy.


+ Exceptional written and verbal communication skills; recognized for strong attention to detail and an aptitude for logical thinking, coupled with an intellectual curiosity to data mine and course correct as needed.


+ Commitment to professional ethics, the ability to interact withinCommunications team, Foundation and corporate, as well asexperience working with sensitive and confidential information.


+ Enthusiasm for the mission and vision of SYF.






MAJOR DUTIES, FUNCTIONS, AND RESPONSIBILITIES



+ Working with the Communications Director and Advancement team, build meaningful connections, encourage community-building, and increase awareness of SYF's mission with current and prospective donors, students, school district partners, journalists and education thought-leaders.


+ Under direction of the Communications Director, drive SYF's digital and social media strategy, including generating, editing, publishing and sharing daily content (original text, images, video or HTML) on SYF's digital and social media platforms.


+ Produce high-quality written and verbal communications, such as op-eds, press releases, speeches, presentations, conference proposals, talking points, etc.


+ Serve as primary graphic designer for printed and digital marketing collateral, working within established SYF Brand Guidelines and Style Guide templates.


+ Work with SYF staff, academy staff, and mall teams to ensure consistent use of SYF brand, including maintaining, editing and improving SYF sections of internal communications platforms.


+ Lead print/digital/email marketing initiatives and tools, including drafting, designing and sending marketing emails through Luminate/Blackbaud and maintaining accurate information for PR contacts at partner school districts, partner organizations and key stakeholder organizations.


+ Provide critical support and leadership for SYF's Annual Educator Conference, including marketing and collateral development, recognition opportunities, etc.


+ Manage photography and videography projects for SYF, including serving as its primary photographer, coordinating event photography/videography, maintaining a catalogue and archive of images for use in future videography documentation, publications, media, etc.


+ Works across teams to support all aspects of SYF; supports President and CEO and Advancement team in research on individuals, corporations, and foundations for funding potential, as needed; coordinates with program team on data for web, impact reports, etc.
